NOSTALGIC
So, as you know, I work digitally to create my art work. Photo manipulation for the most part, but always wanting to expand on my skills I also paint digitally, yearning to be not a one trick pony (no pun intended!)
I've never wanted to be an artist that just creates work from copying photographs. not because I don't enjoy the process and the challenge, but because there are a zillion brilliant artists doing just that, and well, I want to be a little bit different from the crowd of a zillion equine artists.
Im in a group on Facebook, Art of the Horse, and kindly photographers allow use of their photos. I was drawn to a few photographs by a lady Rita Gallaway from 'Spanish Majestic Horses'. I popped them in a folder, potential projects.
I have created two pieces of work from her photographs. 'Phantom Snow Queen' and 'Nostalgic'. Both I am very proud of.

PHANTOM SNOW QUEEN
As per what I am good at, Phantom Snow Queen is very unique in her style. And can never be accused as a plagiarised piece. Nostalgic on the other hand.. well.. the words used were
'this looks like someone elses art work, shame on you!'
When I read this I was quite taken aback. Because I know 100% I had not copied anyone's art work, and the only reference I had used was the permitted photograph. I can honestly say I felt a little bit cheated from the pride I was feeling by having created a brilliant piece of art, from something I was ready to scrap when I started it.
I also would never ever ever copy someone else work without their permission to use it, as i would be upset if the same was done to me.
The accuser had named the artist I had supposedly copied, and it turned out we had both used the same photo as a reference, so yes, of course, our work would look similar, although hers depicted more like the photo than mine.
People have a habit of judging far too quickly without asking a question first and finding out about me and the art. In fact, it happens a lot, in all walks of life. There is an apparent moral to the story here..
